Brandon A. Betts is an Associate in Meyer, Unkovic & Scott’s Multiemployer Plans and Employee Benefits, and Private Clients Practice Groups.  Brandon focuses his practice on the representation of multiemployer and single employer employee benefit plans.   Brandon’s services include assisting with plan design, drafting, and compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and the Affordable Care Act.  Additionally, Brandon helps the Employee Benefits group to provide advice for pension and retirement plans, profit-sharing plans, health and welfare plans, and apprenticeship programs.

Brandon advises multiemployer retirement plan clients on changes brought on by the 2019 SECURE Act.  He also helps retirement and welfare plan clients respond to the COVID-19 crises by implementing provisions of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FCRA”) and the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (“CARES” Act).  These provisions include changes to required healthcare coverage and sick leave related to COVID-19 for welfare plans, as well as new rules regarding plan distributions and loans and their associated tax implications for retirement plans.

Brandon also works in the Private Clients group in the area of estate planning and administration.

Additional Information

Before joining Meyer, Unkovic  Scott, Brandon served as a law clerk for Justice David N. Wecht of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.  While in law school, Brandon worked as a law clerk for the City of Pittsburgh’s Law Department.

Brandon attended Penn State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in History and minors in Business and Italian.  During college, Brandon spent a semester abroad, studying in Rome.

Brandon grew up in Murrysville, Pennsylvania and now resides in Ohio Township with his wife Amanda and their son.
