Sustainable Development

The Sustainable Development Practice Group at Meyer, Unkovic & Scott was formed to help our clients keep pace with the growing market for sustainable, energy efficient development.

Drawing on the firm’s strengths in real estate and lending, construction law, intellectual property, insurance law and tax matters, we employ an interdisciplinary approach to advising our clients on a wide range of legal issues unique to sustainable development. These issues include permitting, land use and zoning, real estate finance and lending, sustainable and LEED® certified construction, energy and utilities law, intellectual property, tax strategies, insurance considerations and litigation.

Whether you need advice on working within an integrated project delivery model to deliver a LEED® certified facility, negotiating a green commercial lease or obtaining energy-efficiency incentives or tax credits, our Sustainable Development Practice Group has the resources to help you succeed. The group’s attorneys have written, spoken and worked on issues related to the development and construction of LEED® certified projects, leasing arrangements for solar arrays, sustainable agriculture and organic farming, intellectual property issues affecting sustainable products and technologies, the representation of green start-ups and a host of other issues.

Members of our group are active within trade and legal associations concerned with sustainable development issues. These include Pittsburgh’s Green Building Alliance, the Master Builders’ Association of Western Pennsylvania, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the Urban Land Institute and others. In addition, the firm has embraced sustainability in law practice management by continuously implementing recycling and energy efficiency initiatives and working to develop a comprehensive sustainability plan for the firm.
